provides Our training modules provide an education in the fundamentals of linear programming as well as the application of those principles to real-world optimization problems. Since there are different LP modeling systems used by clients around the world for different purposes, we try to present principles independent of the modeling system or industry. Applications will be represented by various and traditional uses in the refining and petrochemical industries. Most of the LP utilization for these industries is for two main purposes: raw material supply (i.e. What should I buy?) and operations planning (i.e. How should I process the raw materials being delivered?). The basics of model building will include the following: representing raw material purchase and products for sale, different types of structure for different process technologies, product blending and property specifications, constraints and capacities, and understanding sign conventions and the objective function. Subsequent programs on more advanced techniques are also available. These include the use of ratio controls, distillation swing-cuts, property recursion, composition tracking and error distribution as well as the special uses of multi-period (inventory) & multi-plant (transportation) modeling. The course can also be tailored for meeting various client-specific situations. The allocated time may range, for example, from a week of one-on-one with OJT for getting a new employee rapidly up-to-speed, or as a two-day re-enforcement session for experienced users. In addition, we could focus a course to address unique or atypical topics that have to do with a current project, e.g. an existing process unit expansion or a new facility. Specific client topics will require more preparation time. We can also provide generalized training on the different processing and blending technologies utilized by refineries and petrochemical plants.
